Boaters & Endangered Fish Get Passage Through Green River Dam
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is expected in March for the proposed rehabilitation of the Tusher Diversion Dam just upstream of Green River, Utah. The dam is the only river-wide obstruction of the Green River downstream of Flaming Gorge Dam, hindering native fish migration and requiring a mandatory portage by river runners who value their lives and property. Rehabilitation of the low-head dam, badly damaged by high flows in 2011 is proposed in order to protect irrigation and hydro-power water rights. URC anxiously awaits the release of the DEIS, after stakeholders largely supported retrofitting the dam to allow boat passage as well as passage for endangered native fishes.
