Victory! Audit of Division of Water Resources Approved
On Tuesday, November 19th the Utah Legislative Audit Subcommittee voted unanimously to audit Utah’s top water development agency. Thanks to the over 2000 people who signed the petition, Utah Rivers Council’s effort to address chronic mismanagement of Utah water is moving forward. This audit will show this agency has led Utah to be America’s most wasteful water user. This victory has come at a critical time for the Colorado River because this same agency is seeking approval for the destructive diversion of Colorado River water through the expensive Lake Powell Pipeline. This pipeline is the largest and most expensive proposed diversion in the entire Colorado River Basin and would be detrimental to all downstream ecosystems, including the Grand Canyon and Colorado River Delta.
